The girls started swim lessons last night (evening?). I know! School's not even out yet! But I wanted to get them in early so when they are out of school, we can start going to Aerofit regularly to swim again! Plus, after school's out, they start gymnastics (in the evening) so swim lessons would have to be in the mornings and Brad likes to go and watch too.
Anyway, bottom line. They started last night.
Brooke turned into quite the little fish last year! As seen here, here, and here. This year, she has only been in the water again once. She was adamant and sooo excited that she wanted to do swim team this year! As good as she got last summer, I had no doubt she could do it. So I started looking into it. Then she had her cousin tell her that mean kids do swim team and now she is scared to do it. :( Anyway, the first time back in the water (with us) she struggled with confidence and remembering what to do. I had her registered for the Level 1 swimmers class, which is one where they have to be able to completely swim on her own. And after just the one time in the water, I was a little nervous that she wouldn't show her true swimming colors and be dropped down a level.
But she did awesome! It was just like old times. She got right back in the swing of things. Going under (I didn't let her take her goggles either in the beginning), getting the rings, swimming on her own, her awesome strokes! (I swear that kid looks like a natural swimmer), jumping in and swimming, and her quickness. I had no reason to worry. Quickly I realized she was actually the most advanced kid in her class and they could bump her up to Level 2.
Here she is before starting...
Going under for dive rings..
And the awesome arm stroke (and no, the teacher wasn't holding her...she just is right there, esp for the first day of classes not knowing what level swimmers all the kids are)...
I am so pleased with the teachers both the girls got! The one Brooke has I noticed in prior years teaching the older kids and she is really good. The teacher Brenna got was actually Brooke's teacher last year that got her swimming! So I really am pleased with both their teachers.
Speaking of Brenna... this was her first time to go to swim lessons alone. Under 3yrs, they go into the WaterBabies class with a parent. So this year, she got to go by herself. And she did. With no complaints. Her only complaint was that she had to get out! (and watch Brooke a little longer since the older kids go twice as long) She was going underwater by herself and doing very well listening to her teacher and following whatever instructions she told her to do! We might have two little fish on our hands before long! :)
Here's Brenna with her class...
And scooting around the water with her teacher, kicking and blowing bubbles...
And this was all only Day One! Can't wait to see the progress the girls make after two weeks! :)
