The girls did it and had a blast and learned a lot. So this year, we were sure to sign up again! Last week was the first week, where Brenna went in the mornings and Brooke went in the afternoons. Lucky for Brenna, this week, she gets to go to another round while Brooke Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-38966673649428876952014-06-27T14:32:00.000-05:002014-06-27T14:32:00.785-05:00Vacation Bible SchoolOh how we love our church's Vacation Bible School. The girls just love love love it. Everything from the music, to the activities, to the people, to the games, to the snacks. Its just awesome. This year, we had friends come with us and they loved it just as much I'm pretty sure!

For Father's Day, nothing big. We took Brad out to eat at a local mexican restaurant, where he got a free gift! (the hat) Otherwise, I think he had a great day!

No, just kidding. We have loads of time for fun, but after taking a week or two break and doing nothing.....I wanted to start some sort of work for the kids. I don't want them to go back into school, having forgotten stuff or not knowing things they should. If you've been around me lately, you know a big issue I have right now is the schools not Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-52753810730110154062014-06-25T14:04:00.000-05:002014-06-25T14:04:00.071-05:00Pitching lessonsWith Brooke having to move up next year to a new age bracket in softball...she will also either lose her spot at 'pitcher' or have to learn to pitch. She wants to learn to pitch. Lucky for us, the pitcher for the high school softball team (who is a senior next year) also goes to our church. So we worked out a deal for her to give Brooke some pitching lessons. More than Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-10922738520299715792014-06-24T14:03:00.000-05:002014-06-24T14:03:00.039-05:00If you build it...Ok, we didn't really build anything... but while a lot of her team is on vacation and doing other things, Brooke has been missing practice. So we gathered a few friends and met at the softball fields for an impromptu fun little 'practice'. We had an older girl there too so she got some pitching practice against our younger girls, while the younger girls got to practice hitting Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-28405935720172273842014-06-24T13:58:00.000-05:002014-06-24T13:58:00.018-05:00More swimmingThe girls have pretty much been swimming every day. And most recently, Brad taught Brenna to snorkel. She has become SUCH a good swimmer and loves to be underwater. She has told us she dreams about living underwater and it feels like she is flying. Now that she knows how to snorkel, she may never come up out of the water again! One day hopefully she'll get to snorkelBrandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-22040251065431504732014-06-23T17:00:00.000-05:002014-06-23T17:00:01.097-05:00BitsyBrooke made straight A's the first 6 weeks, the second six weeks, then she made one B the 3rd six weeks (timing for that was right around our Disney vacation....coincidence?). Anyway, so after that B, I told her in passing and off the cuff, if she made all A's the rest of the year I would get her a hamster (something she had been asking for....again), despite whatever Daddy said (he was Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-81607640059897700122014-06-23T13:51:00.000-05:002014-06-23T13:51:00.142-05:00Brenna's first piano lesson!Ever since Brenna stopped playing/practicing with her tournament softball team, she has been telling us piano is going to be her sport. LOL All kidding aside, she has been so ready to start piano its not even funny! So Mrs Chris let her start coming during the summer as a preface before the new season starts in the Fall...to give her that leg up. We got her her own piano Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-34590357491096715822014-06-23T13:44:00.000-05:002014-06-23T13:44:00.412-05:00Sisters rule!Love when they have moments like these...genuinely having fun together. After school let out, we made the rounds and joined all the summer reading clubs we could. The local library has a summer reading program where you get restaurant coupons. Half Price books has one you can get a gift card. And Barnes and Noble has one where you can earn a free book. So we spent one morning making the rounds and signing up, spending a little extra time in Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-64187843074202293322014-06-22T13:45:00.000-05:002014-06-22T13:45:00.445-05:00Animal Day at the LibraryEvery summer our local libraries put on free 'events' for the kids. One of our favorites is animal day. This year we took our friends who would be moving out of state (boo!) a few short days later. It was nice to get some quality time in before they moved.
Brenna was so excited to see the police dog demonstration. The next day, they were worn out!

But with the crazy amount of hair we were dealing with ALLLL over the house, the poor dog being so hot and miserable, and his hair getting matted up, we decided we'd get Barkley shaved. Not bald. Just a summer cut. :)

As soon as school is out, we headed and have had days of JJ's snow cones, pool parties at our house, and more! We took a 'week off' or so...of just being lazy, sleeping in, lounging around and doing nothing. RELAX!
Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-72234621225267513392014-06-21T13:30:00.000-05:002014-06-21T13:30:00.128-05:00End of school and awardsTowards the end of school, life gets cuh-razy! It seems a parent is up at the school every day all day for some kids' awards ceremony, principal awards, picnics, grade level awards, whatever. The last week is crazy. So I'm combining it all in a nutshell.
Brenna had grade level semester awards in her room a few days before school ended...
They did candy bar awards and Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-31722618935322476982014-06-21T09:52:00.000-05:002014-06-21T09:52:00.488-05:003rd grade picnicDuring Teacher Appreciation week at school, the different grade levels have their picnics (so each teacher can 'relax' during the lunch hour and beyond). Every one except Kindergarten, who does theirs the last day of school to conveniently skip Principal awards happening on the last day. Haha!
Anyway, here's some pics from Brooke's 3rd grade picnic...
After her picnic, Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-119010717571378222014-06-20T16:57:00.000-05:002014-06-20T16:57:00.522-05:00GuildAt the end of the year (even after the recital), Brooke participates in Guild for piano. Its basically a performance in front of a judge, with only her and the judge in the room. She performs 7 songs memorized, has to be able to play all of her 14 scales with cadences, and has to transpose a piece of music to 2 different keys. Its quite a job! Its like the final exam for Brandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10857643535849987147noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7145795715131936649.post-2620479858781744532014-06-20T16:51:00.000-05:002014-06-20T16:51:00.459-05:00Aggie softballWe went with friends to the last regular season game of the Aggie Softball team. Of course they won! Yay! But it was fun to be out (albeit, super hot day) watching the girls, particularly the seniors, play. We had a great time. :)
Afterwards, we stayed around and got some signatures on balls and gloves.

Brooke started in the summer and was the first (I think?) to finish all 20. She was recognized on morning announcements and presented with a $10 gift card to Barnes and Noble. :) Around the same time she also rec'd her award for reading 2 million words!

Or maybe I should say we had several hard freezes that happened later in the year than we're used to. So it delayed us putting in the garden.
I've been taking pictures to document along the way. We first pulled all the weeds and junk. Then Brad went and got a fresh load of compost/dirt to start us off good.

Spring time is just hard for us. There's softball, there's both kids' birthdays, there's our anniversary, bluebonnet time (which translates to a busy photo season for me as well). I still try to make Easter super special as I thoroughly enjoy the holiday, but its hard.
