To say we have been spending a lot of time at the pool would be an understatement. Since joining Aerofit, we've been there pretty much every day. Even the day(s) it rained, we were there during the stalls. I think since joining a few weeks ago, we've missed about 4 days total and that included the one day where it literally rained all day long.
Anyway, as a result, Brooke is turning into quite the little fish. We also found this neat little contraption for Brenna, which is a little better than typical arm floaties, since it has the front part too. Also, its foam vs inflatable, meaning we can use it at public pools as well (they don't allow inflatables). It also goes on much easier! And she can maneuver her way around perfectly. Its been a dream. :) She also likes to "wear" goggles like Brooke does, though they serve her no actual function other than looking cute. :)
As I said, Brooke is turning into quite the fish. I now have 100% confidence in her swimming. I have no fear if she falls in, she can save herself. She is swimming in water where she cannot touch (though I still like her to be where she can....just for safety sake). She has learned to swim underwater first and since has perfected her swimming above water as well, or just coming up for air occasionally. In fact, she is probably a much better swimmer than I am now!
And yes, the pool really is that empty most of the time. The only crowd that we've seen there was on July 4th and it was still half or less the amount of people that would be a public pool on a slow day. Its sooo nice to have the pool (mostly) to yourself all the time.
Here's some fun underwater pictures from a friend's camera. Makes me want an underwater camera or casing for my camera. Fun stuff!
And an action shot... ;)
Here's a quick 2 videos to show her progress.... And these were taken a good week or so ago. Since then she is now jumping off the side to no one and just swimming around wherever. Quite the change since the first day of swimming lessons back only a month or so ago. When she started lessons, she wouldn't even put her face in the water! By the end of the first session, she was diving for rings (still a favorite game) and swimming with assistance. By the end of the second session, she was swimming alone for short distances, but was still wary of jumping in by herself. (Truth be told, I think she has a bit of a fear of heights which carries into this some.) She got to where at the end of swim lessons, she would BARELY jump in without holding the hand of the person in the water. And even then, she would not go under the water from a jump. In this video she is jumping in and swimming to me and now she jumps in, goes under, swims underwater and above water where ever she wants to end up! Quite the progress I think. We were thinking of doing more lessons with a private teacher (family friend), but what more could she teach her?? I am so proud of her!!!!
And an up close version... This is when we started getting her to come up for air while swimming even if she doesn't need to so she can last longer. Again, this was taken a week or so ago and since then and now, she swims both ways often and much faster. ;) Now I'm trying to convince her she can dive off the diving board. Haha! Think that'll take some more work (the whole fear of heights thing...).
And a fun silly picture to end on this post. After coming home from swimming, Brenna decided she wanted to ride Brooke like a horse. :) Silly girls....
