Softball tourney

Brooke has been playing on and practicing with a tournament team this summer as well.  She had gone to one tournament earlier in the summer but a few weeks ago had the second one with a more developed team.  Brooke is, by far, one of the best on her team.  She has come so far with her skills in the last year.  She can catch mostly everything, she can hit, her fielding is phenomenal, and she really knows the 'rules' of the game...how to play each position, where to stand, how to back up throws, etc etc...

So one Saturday we got up earlier and drove to a tournament..where her team played 5 games.  They lost 4 and won one, however came REALLY close to winning another that they probably should've won.  This is a very young team (Brooke is also one of the oldest) so that says a lot that they held their own in a tournament!  Most of all, though, they all played well and didn't complain (it gets hot in August at 2 in the afternoon on a dirt field) or whine about anything and they didn't have any room for substitutions.  So every girl pretty much had to play in every game throughout the whole game.

Brooke did outstanding!  She got a hit at every single at bat, except one.  Now...maybe they threw her out a couple times, but I guess what I mean is she didn't strike out.  Sometimes she got a double or triple on overthrows and paying attention, being ready to run.  More than anything though, I was so proud of her playing in the field.  Her 'position' kinda rotates depending on the need.  She loves to play pitcher, but usually rotates between 2nd base, short stop, or rover.  She made the BEST play when she fielded the ball and got/had to chase down a runner at 2nd and tagged her out.  It was awesome!!!  SO proud of her and how well she plays and how much she just loves the game.

Here's some pictures -

I didn't get a lot of pictures during the game as I was keeping score and feeding the line for the batting order.  But in between games parents brought tents for us to camp out under to stay cool(er).  We lucked out in that it was only in the low 90's the day of this tournament.  ;)

She even played catcher a couple of innings...

Afterwards because the team played so well, the coach took them to eat at Incredible Pizza (holy cow!  have you ever been there???  Its HUGE!) where we met up with the other team/friends from our area and got to eat, play games, etc.

They didn't stay still for long and my phone battery died quickly after getting there so that was the last picture I got that day.  But safe to say Brooke loved every minute of it and can't wait till the next one!  Now, that Fall is here the tournaments will pick up...with them trying to do at least once a month or so. However, at the same time, Fall league is starting up soon so practice time with the tournament team will be limited.  Softball softball softball!!!  Yep.  I'm THAT mom.  We live at the softball fields.
