Since Brooke's birthday actually fell on a Saturday, we had a FULL day planned. Normally we would've taken her out to eat or something special for her actual bday (in addition to a friends party), so this time we crammed it all in on one day since it was her actual birthday on a Saturday. At first I thought it was kinda cool to have your birthday on a Saturday. Well, I think I'd prefer it to be during the week next time. ;)
So, the day before her birthday (on Friday), I took cookies and juice up to her school so all her friends at school could sing to her.
Then on Saturday morning, she woke us up bright and early reminding us it was her birthday and she was FIVE now! (as if we didn't remember). I went and got some donuts while she got dressed and she came in to the kitchen surprised at some balloons we had blown up and a donut cake (complete with sprinkles on top and a candle!). A special day deserves a special breakfast!
Then she got to open her presents from us and Brenna. You'll see in the picture, she got a bag of rocks. Inside joke that I'll explain now. I kept asking her what she wanted for her birthday. She couldn't really come up with much (she doesn't see a lot of commericials, we don't spend a lot of time in toy stores for her to get ideas and she's just overall a pretty content little girl). So I finally told her, "well, I'll just get you a box of rocks then for your birthday." Joking around of course. She replied, "well, ok. I like the big rocks, and the white ones." Haha! (she really does like rocks...gets that from her Daddy!) So we got her a little bag of rocks!
Don't worry. She was spoiled beyond belief with a Nintendo DS, games and case for it, 2 new Barbies (from Brenna) a timex indiglo time teacher watch (that's really cool - look that up if you have young kids!) and a couple of other little things.
She didn't have much time to play with her new things, because we had to be off to her first party - a Princess party at My Party Palace with her closest girl friends. That was so cute! The girls got to dress up, get makeup and nail polish. Then they took a princess oath and walked the runway. They learned to sip tea properly and made their own princess dust. The cake was so pretty..and yummy too! I think all the girls had fun!
Then a quick lunch, home, and naps, because in the evening, our families were coming over to celebrate a little more! We had pizza, a cute cupcake cake and more presents of course. All the cousins had fun playing outside together (they really love spending time together) and I think all the adults enjoyed themselves too. But most of all, Brooke loved having alllll her family come over to HER backyard to play.
We stayed up way too late and both girls were tuckered out. And then we still had to get up early to make it to Sunday School on time, where they could sing to her and give her a small prize. (she also had to sing in church for Palm Sunday!) But Brooke got lots of nice things and really enjoyed her day/weekend. I call that a success! Now, that's its over....I still can't believe I have a 5 year old... :-(
Enjoy some more pics from our eventful birthday weekend...
