Back in the swing of things!

So, school is back in full force now.  It's been a full week (and then some) and the girls have got a groove going.

Brenna is so so so happy at her new school.  She has a couple of bad habits she picked up from last year (hesitating at the door, etc).  But her teachers are so so wonderful and most importantly so genuinely loving with her!  They scoop her up quickly, dole out lots of hugs and make her feel welcome.  Something that she has longed for for some time now.  So, again, I am so glad she is where she is.  Especially this year, before starting Kindergarten.  So we can break that cycle and get her feeling good about school again.

Her teachers have passed on a couple of heartbreaking stories that she's told them...she is really tugging on their heartstrings over there!  :)  But in so doing, she is able to really get the most out of where she is.  And they are always so busy there!  Everything is always really quiet and they are always busy working when we drop off, pick up, or just drop in!  Its quite impressive!

And honestly I have been pretty impressed with the things she has brought home thus far!  It's not super duper crazy hard stuff...but its stuff she can do easily and its SOMEthing that they are doing with her, getting her feeling confident in herself again.  And really its pretty good stuff!  They even made a cute little book 'about me' the first week and have art work plastered on the walls that is all really cute, plus a few worksheets she's brought home...

Not to mention the bible stories, bible songs, and getting to go to Chapel at least once a week..all very important things she's missed out on.

Anyway, I can't say enough how happy she is there, which makes Mommy happy!  :)

Brooke, meanwhile, is going strong in second grade.  She hasn't had any homework yet! But apparently is working hard.  She's come home each day boasting of the new things she's learned and not always in the core subjects.  Most recently she has really been enthralled with Art.  Helps to have an amazing Art teacher, getting her pumped about cubisms and Michelangelo and different ways to draw things, etc.  But its so fun to see her so excited about new things.

We haven't gotten a lot of information about the goings ons yet (and I don't have any wonderful pics...sorry!)..but hope to soon this week at 2nd grade orientation.  Mostly, I am proud to say she is wearing her glasses every day to school, without prompting, without hesitation, and without complaints.  Woo hoo!  I knew she'd be fine once she realized the kids would not make fun of her.  But you know...  it just took her getting used to the idea.  And now she's fine with it.  Yay!

All the girls' other activities are starting this week and next.  Brooke's piano lessons started back up and she's back up on that horse again.  And she is wanting to play softball again this Fall.  So this time, she is older, she is playing in the 8U league and will have to go through "evaluations".  Sounds scary huh?  Yea.  That's what I thought... but apparently its just a chance for the coaches to see who's there and have fun with it and all that.  So evaluations are next week.  She's excited to start that back up!

As far as Brenna, we had another hiccup with Kindermusik this year.  Her class (with her beloved teacher) again did not make this year.  So she is having to do a different time and hence a different teacher.  Ho hum.  I'm sure it'll be ok.  But the time isn't a great time (it works out okaayyyy...but isn't ideal) and I'm sure the teacher will be fine, but its not HER teacher.  Oh well.  This year she gets to learn the glockenspiel and starts really learning to read notes and such.  Eek!

Also, Brenna has expressed the interest in dance again.  We found a place closer to home that a lot of friends from Brooke's school go to and rave about that's pretty reasonable.  So we decided we'd let her give it a go.  Brooke got to do dance at her age and we think it only fair Brenna has the same options.  We'll see how it goes.  Her first class is tomorrow!

So they each have school, music and one other activity.  Music in our books is pretty much a core.  It's a 'have to'.  The other activity is a want.  Brooke chose softball, Brenna dance.  My fear is that Brooke is going to want to do dance too, but she just cannot possibly do it all...nor can we afford it all.  (its gonna be tight as it is!)  So hopefully she ends up being ok with her choice.  :)

As for me.  Well, my job is ever expanding.  Ha!  I say that b/c my own photography business is booming.  Of course, this IS the 'busy season'.  I am almost completely booked through November already.  On top of that, I have taken on a...er....um...."position"??? ....  as one of the VIPS coordinators with Brooke's school (in training).  VIPS stands for Volunteers In Public Schools.  So yea.  As of next year, I'll be coordinating all that good stuff.  This year, the one who is in charge is passing the torch. Hmmm....  Yea.  Not so sure what I've got myself into on this one....  But next week I "get" to go have lunch with some of the big whigs with the school district.  So that might be fun!

Also, we've had photographers come and go like crazy at my other job at the hospitals (taking the newborn baby pictures), but most recently, the last photographer quit and then there was one.  As in, me.  Just me.  Only me.  That's it.  2 hospitals, one photographer.  Not exactly sure how this is panning out just yet.  But I have been working a whole heckuva lot for sure.  Sure, the money is good.  But my sanity is dwindling.  Haha!

We will manage I'm sure.  Biggest problem right now is finding childcare for Brenna when I am still working yet she gets out of school (at 12p).  Its not working out as nicely and neatly as I had hoped and again, my sanity is dwindling.  :P

But now that everything is going and busy and bustling...we are finding our groove, albeit a fast paced groove...we are doing it and making it work.  But if you don't get updates as often as before??  Well.  Now,  you know why!  LOL
