Teacher treats

I had a few friends post on Facebook their cute little back to school teacher "gifts".  I felt like I was slacking in this department, so I scoured Pinterest for a bit, sent the hubby over to Walgreens to pick up 3 packages of Rolos and some Hershey's kisses and created these little treats.

It was really SUPER easy.  I didn't even have the correct color construction paper, so I made my own.  Ha!  I just found the color I liked in photoshop for the yellow and pink and printed out a sheet of each.  Probably not the most efficient use of ink, but hey.

So, a quick step by step if you are interested...

First, my supplies...

I cut the yellow papers into 3 strips (we have 3 teachers, 3 packages of Rolos and kisses = 3 "pencils") and folded it accordion style to get the look of the 'pencil'...

The unfolded and wrapped around the Rolo's, 'attaching' it with glue dots on the candy side, then a glue stick to secure the wrapping to itself (I didn't even have regular glue!  Had to use a glue stick...ha!).

I think the tops (the "erasers") were actually the worst part and if I had longer to think on it, I might have done it differently.  But I seriously did this project in less than an hour.  So, yea.  You get what you get.  Anyway.  I traced a Hershey's Kiss to get the right width, cut out a circle to make the top of the eraser part smooth.  Then attached it (also with a glue dot).

You'll see the yellow paper doesn't go all the way to the top, that's cuz the pink will overlay it, as you see next.  ;)

To hide the overlay and to make it look like a more real pencil, I cut a small strip of tin foil and attached it at the seam of the papers.  I used the jagged edge even to make it look more 'real'.  You know, the part that cuts off when you tear it from the box?

Then taking out the Hershey label from the Kiss, I attached the Kiss to the other end to make the point of the pencil.

Added a ribbon with a cute tag created in Photoshop and voila'!  Cute little teacher treat for the first day of school.  :)
