Class Act Camp

Last week, Brooke and (cousin) Chad went to an Etiquette "camp" called Class Act Camp.  They learned etiquette rules, table manners, little things about which side to put a name tag on, how to shake hands, what to say when answering the phone, etc etc etc etc...  they also taught them a little 'fancy' dancing.  The merengue, the fox trot, the box step, etc.  Just very basically, but still.  When they are older the same instructor teaches kids (ages 12+) ballroom dancing!  I think it'd be fun for them to go!  However, this time was just the basics.  This was from ages 7-12.  So Brooke was one of the youngest - definitely the smallest - out of a class of about 45 I think?

They went everyday in the afternoons at the presidential library.  They had to dress up a little, so they could practice sitting properly in a dress, how the men opened doors for the ladies, etc.  They had a little book and everything!

I only got to go and watch on the last day (due to work schedules) and here are some pics/videos...

Here's some videos of the dancing parts.  At first, Brooke is with Chad.  But they switch partners often.  In one video, you'll see Brooke dancing with the instructor (she teaches them how to end the dance too, saying 'thank you for the pleasure of dancing w you...' or something to that effect.  So you'll see her lean down to Brooke and shake her hand and say that.) In one video, Sammy is dancing with Brooke b/c they were short on boy partners (more girls than boys) and in another Brooke is w an older boy.  Cute!

And then!  It gets better!  On the last day, at the end, they did awards.  Everyone got a participation award/certificate.

And then they did special awards.  They had a best dancer (1st and 2nd place), congeniality award (easiest to get along with), and an overall Most Mannerly award (girls and boys, 1st and 2nd place).  Out of 45 kids...a lot of them much older, bigger, and wiser.  A lot of them much more ready to speak and answer questions, etc.  I was happy with Brooke getting her participation award.  But wouldn't you know?!?!?  She won first place Most Mannerly for all the girls!  WHAT?!  Yay!  Go Brooke!  I was so proud!  And I think she was very surprised too!  :)

A proud mommy I am for sure! :)
