Sort of. When Ms Lydia shut down the school, she handed over some goodies! A few computer programs for each of the girls, several workbooks, textbooks, and more. So I spent a week making copies, sorting and organizing...stuff. I've got Brooke's folder (accordion style folder) done and filled to the max with worksheets and such for her to do over the summer. I still need to do Brenna's. So every morning, after breakfast and before we 'start' our day, I have them sit down and Brooke will do 2-3 pages and Brenna 1 or 2.
We're starting off slow. Mainly most of the things Brooke has the capability to do on her own. And I am more working with her on appropriate school-related activities and becoming independent doing her own work. For one example, she's always been told what to do on her worksheets...I'm getting her in the habit of reading the instructions on the top of the page first and foremost. Just things that will help her adapt to public school life better in the Fall. I'm also really trying to get her to practice her handwriting more. She can write very legibly, but she isn't always consistent with using capitals vs lower-case letters in the appropriate places. In just a few days however, she's already recognizing her mistakes without me telling her and erasing and correcting it on her own.
Here she is working on math, which she really doesn't enjoy. Her strong suit is definitely reading and writing (she loves to write stories!), so I want her to feel more confident with math.
As I said, I am still working on Brenna's folder and she needs a lot more 'help' or instruction. So until I can finish getting it all organized, I have her working on writing too. Which, actually, she asks to do 99% of the time. In fact, for busy work, while Brooke is finishing her work sometimes, I will just give Brenna a coloring page or the like for her to do and she will end up tracing any of the letters that happen to be on the page! She really is loving writing now too! So we'll just go with it! I printed out these pages that a friend passed on to me where you can type in anything (for both her and Brooke - Brooke's are more difficult...without all the lines there) for writing practice.
