The birthday weekend begins

So, even though Brooke's birthday isn't till Sunday, we started celebrating today! Since her birthday falls on a weekend, she wanted to do a little something at school today. So I brought up cookies and juice and all the kids sang to her. She loved it, of course. :)

Then after naps, Brad took off a little early, so I could take her to get a pedicure. She LOVES them and so I think a birthday is a special enough time to get one for a little girl. :)

It didn't take her long to pick out her color!

She loved every minute of it....

Cute little toes - pink with butterflies!

Then, after that, one set of grandparents wanted to take her out - she picked Olive Garden. Big shocker there!

Then we came home to get ready for her party tomorrow!

I've gotten a lot of calls about Brenna. She's doing ok. For a little update on her...

After Monday when she got the cast originally, she was walking great by Tuesday. She was getting around everywhere! Then on Wednesday she all of the sudden stopped walking, except if holding a hand. She complained of her back hurting. I started googling pictures of leg casts and realized hers was not right. Her foot was in there at an angle. So its like she had a pointed toe the entire time. I still wasn't sure if maybe they did it like that for a reason, but it was sure worth a phone call, especially since she quit walking and was complaining every so slightly. So I called and they said to bring her back in in the morning (Thursday) to get re-casted. Ugh.

That did not go so well, mainly because they had to cut the old one off first. :( This was the first time she cried through all of this. My strong girl. It didn't hurt. Just loud. And scary. And after it was over, she settled down and was a champ getting her new cast.

Now, its on a little more flat footed. Not completely flat, but we can definitely tell a big difference in her walking. She's not toe walking so much anymore. Some times. But not all the time. I don't know if its supposed to be perfectly flat (its still not) or if close enough is good enough, but until she starts complaining or walking less, we'll leave it be.

Now, she's back to conquering everything! She is THE most resilient child I have ever known. And I'm not saying that because she's my daughter (b/c my other daughter is definitely not that). She is so tough. She doesn't let a cast stop her. She does everything at school that she did before.

In fact, most recently she decided she wants to go back to doing everything herself. Including getting in her carseat. By herself! With a full leg cast on! Don't ask me how she does it, but yes, she does it. The seats are tight together as it is and its always been a struggle to get up and in before...but now?! Yes, now. She's doing it. She crawls up from the ground into the floor of the car, then from there, into her carseat, turns around and sits down. All 100% completely on her own. Amazing kid. And that's just one example. She manages and maneuvers like you wouldn't believe!

Tonight we let her 'bling' out her cast. I had trouble finding anything that would stick to her cast, but these little jewel stickers were a little bit more like glue dots, so maybe they'll last. :)

Now, tomorrow, we'll see how she manages at her sisters birthday party at Powersports. I always wanna say 'poor kid' but somehow, Brenna doesn't seem to let anything bother her!
