The best ice cream in the country...

And if you are from around here, you are now singing the song from Blue Bell. :)

Yesterday, we drove to Brenham for the day. Brooke has been begging this whole week to go to Blue Bell to do the tour. And not even so much for the free ice cream at the end. She legitimately wanted to do the tour and see how they made ice cream. Anyway, so I decided we'd make it a fun little Spring Break thing to do. We got a late start, so we met up with my dad for lunch. After lunch, we had heard that they had the carousel open and going at Fireman's Park, so I thought we could also stop by there and do that. We drove by...and it was PACKED! Long lines, etc. So I decided to skip it to ensure we could make Blue Bell, since that was the whole reason for our trip.

We get to Blue Bell. The parking lot is full. The overflow parking lot is full. There are cars parked up and down the side of the highway on both sides..and that is full for 1/2 mile each way. It was insane! We get to the primary parking lot and there is a huge sign up reading that the tours are sold out. You have got to be kidding! They do tours every 10 minutes the whole day. And they are sold out for the rest of the day?! I've never heard of that.. And we've been before. On Spring Break. Sure it was crowded before, but not sold out?!

*sigh*... The guy directing traffic tells us not only is sold out for that day, but its been sold out for the whole week since Tuesday! Good grief! He tells us we can still walk around the store, the outside, and buy ice cream. So, as to not totally waste the entire day, we do just that. Luckily a parking spot opened up right in front and in we went to go buy our $1/scoop ice cream.

It was so crowded inside, there wasn't a place to sit. And with Brenna still moving slow, she got trampled on, bumped into, and run over. I held on to her hand for dear life and told Brooke to not let go of my shirt. Yes, it was that crazy. We did finally get our ice cream and luckily enough again, a table opened up with 2 chairs just as we needed them.

The ice cream was delicious, of course. But Brooke was really devastated that she couldn't do the tour. She really wanted to walk through it all. :( Anyway, we went to the gift shop and got a couple things as a consolation prize. It was crazy packed inside there too - maybe worse than the ice cream parlor. I told Brooke when we left I was lucky to be leaving there with my two kids! I hate big crowds and get flustered trying to keep ahold and keep track of my children. They were good and all...it was just wall to wall people.

Then we walked around outside, with Brooke asking to take a picture in front of any and everything. Maybe we'll try to plan another trip one day when Brad can go too.
