We pretended that yesterday was Brenna's birthday. Because, really...does a 2yr old know what day of the week April 26 is? And frankly, Saturdays work better for us to celebrate on than a Monday. ;)
So first thing in the morning, we blew up a TON of yellow balloons (her favorite color!) and surprised her with a special donut breakfast and let her open her presents from us and Brooke.
You can tell how excited she was to see all the balloons here...
We didn't think we could make her put the balloons down to even eat!
But finally, once she realized she had a special breakfast, she was all about getting in her birthday girl chair to have her donut hole cake and get sung to.
Actually, she enjoys doing the singing. Its so cute! Everyone sings to her, but she just sings right along with it! My sweet girl...
After we finished breakfast, we let her open up all the presents she's been eyeing the last week. :) She got a new toy cell phone (that teaches your phone number) from Brooke and a bubble mower, sequels to her favorite books (Goodnight Moon, and Brown Bear Brown Bear) along with some other new similar books, her own Minnie Mouse dress up clothes (small enough for her to actually wear!), and a new baby from us. She was probably the most excited about her new baby doll that laughs and 'drinks' milk and even burps. Oh, how she loves that part. :P
Here she is thanking Brooke for her present and giving away kisses.
Then after her favorite lunch of corndogs and bananas and after naps, we had all the family over for a small backyard party for her. We weren't too sure how she'd handle all the company. During Brooke's party a month ago, she didn't really like the attention to put it mildly and it wasn't even her party! We toyed with the idea of not even having a real party, but thought it might be ok with just family. And it was ok for the most part. She had her moments of being overwhelmed, but settled into a nice groove with everyone after a bit. Of course, it always helps being outside...the girl would live outside if she could.
I find it amusing that even as adults, we tend to separate ourselves into a boys/girls area. Here's the men over at the grilling station...
And the ladies chatting away...
But once the food was ready, we had a nice assembly line going. :)
We had hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and grapes. And of course, with a Monkey George theme (that's Curious George for those that don't know ;), we had bananas everywhere. And I had to throw in some black-eyed peas, since those are literally Brenna's most favorite food ever!
Apparently, Monkey George isn't so popular these days. I could not find any Monkey George party supplies, favors, or even a cake design! Lucky for us, when Brooke was 2, she also had a Curious George party so we had some leftover supplies. And even luckier for us, Brad now works with a most awesome cake person. When I asked her about doing a Monkey George cake, I had nothing in mind. Just yellow (again, Brenna's favorite color) with some sort of Curious George something..and hopefully not too boyish. I knew she'd do something fabulous and boy did she!
As cute as the cake was to look at, it was even better to eat. I promise, I don't think I've ever had as good a cake as she made. The icing was un-imaginable. She made it with real butter and it just melted in your mouth. Oh my it was good. :)
Again, Brenna enjoyed singing to herself along with everyone else and did a fabulous job blowing out the candles. Then we let her open up all her fantastic gifts from everyone.
She got a lot of nice things, including the beautiful necklace she's wearing in the above picture, new luggage (to match Brooke's from Nana), a playhut, some cool new crocs, a basketball goal, a walking Furreal Friends cat, more books and dolls, lots of pink room decorations and lights and a doggie doctor kit. But I have to say the most treasured present by her account were the two quarters she got in a purseful of money from Birdie and DanDaddy...
That was one of the first presents she opened and would NOT put the money down afterwards to open anymore. She was so excited to get money! What she is saying in the above picture, is "Two Monies!....Oooooo!" She literally kept her two quarters in her hand the rest of the evening, till 8p that night when we finally pried it from her hands to make her take a bath! LOL
Anyway, all in all it was a good little Monkey George party. (I love how she calls him that and refuse to let anyone correct her.) It wasn't too much for her but she enjoyed her day and playing with her cousins and the big kids too. The weather was perfect and we all had a great time with yummy food and a delicious cake! I can't believe my littlest baby is about to be 2 years old!
