Today was the day. Today was the day we did our DNA testing on our sweet dog Barkley. Where we will find out what breed(s) of dog he is and to what percentage. He's so happy. He's been wanting to know his true heritage for some time now. To try to incorporate some of his culture in our family as well. :P
Here's the patient...1 year old male dog, Barkley...
Here's the lab....
Providing a 'sterile' environment, Brad insisted I use rubber gloves..you know, cuz that's how they do it on TV. Just sayin.
Pulling out the DNA kit..the two testing swabs... Notice how Barkley is eyeing them..."umm, what are you going to do with THAT?"...
And the moment we've all been waiting for...the cheek swab. To be most proficient, we had to do each cheek with a separate swab, swabbing in a striking and circular pattern alongside the cheeks and gums, pressing firmly to get as much DNA as possible. (I'm serious...these were the instructions)
Letting the swabs air dry for approximately 30 minutes before packaging it up...And the sample is sealed up, ready to be delivered. Said deliverer (to the post office anyway) is pictured below. Now we wait. We should have the results about 2 weeks after they receive the sample. Then I'm guessing the Maury Povich show will be calling us for the show "Dog Paternity Tests Revealed". :-)
