School's out for summer!

Ok, well, really...Summer has started long ago. Do I need to remind you that we have constant 100-degree + days here? And that the garden is finally seeing its last bout of happiness before drying up completely? But Brooke's been going to the Summer session and it just ended this week. So we're on a month-long 'vacation' now from school. The last day was exciting and fun. They've been studying Mexico in the month of July, so the last day of school, Ms Lydia had a pinata for them to bust open. Now, I don't think ever in my life have I seen an organized pinata bust. I mean, you take turns hitting the pinata, but then when it's busted, all the kids take off and start grabbing candy, right? Well, if anyone can apply organization and kindness to pinata busting, it is Ms Lydia. After it was busted, not one kid ran for the candy. They all sat in a circle and candy was passed out equally among all the kids. Then, after the pinata, they had a real Mariachi band come and play for the kids (and adults!). They were REALLY good! Here's a short video I took so you could enjoy some music! :-)

Even Brenna had her little 'instrument' and was dancing and playing along. So, for now, we are back to sleeping late (ahhhhh! that's nice!) and just lounging around the house. Hoping for some playdates before school starts back up mid-August. I've had my week full of dentist appts, eye doctor appts and more. (yea, on top of all the eye problems, I now have more dental problems too - fun stuff.) But soon we'll be on our little mini-vacation! Here's some around-the-house pics from the last couple days. (that's my mom's dog in the shopping cart)
