Garden Post

The garden is going really well now! Almost too well! The tomatos have almost outgrown their bamboo stakes that we thought we made waaaaay too tall. Turns out they could've been taller. The watermelons and cantaloupes have finally started taking off and I can't wait to start getting fruit from them! The bell peppers have started to produce as well.
We finally have one lone lettuce plant. Nothing ever sprouted so I was kinda surprised when I noticed one day the beginnings of a plant out there. Only one, but better than none I guess. Of course, if there was more than one, it probably would've been overtaken by the spinach anyways. The spinach is taking over the whole garden it seems! I can't keep it cut fast enough and have had to give away A LOT of spinach. I would have never planted as much as I did (5 plants) had I known just how well it would've done. (the spinach is on the right, the tall plant on the left is cilantro - another one I am running out of use for...its' going crazy too!)This was a picture of the spinach taken today before I cut it...I have to keep it cut so it doesn't overtake the strawberries...literally. So here is the amount I cut off to give away (we still have too much stored for us)...And still a huge amount left afterwards....Anyway, most of the fruit trees are doing well too! The flowers have all fell off the orange trees (mostly) and fruit is beginning to replace them. Same with the keylime tree...they tend to grow in 'clumps' though...One of the apple trees has several fresh stems, leaves, and flowerings...The other apple tree still remains a stick... :-( Its alive, just hasn't leafed out yet. I'm worried it's not getting enough sun. All the other trees get morning and afternoon sun...it just gets afternoon sun. It's the only tree planted against the back fence, per Brad's recommendation on distancing. So if it doesn't make it, at least I have someone to blame. :-P

Brooke enjoys picking the fruit and veggies - here she is with a cherry tomato and a strawberry....
