Starting today, I have created a project calendar for Brooke. I realized our most trying time is the time period between when she wakes up from her nap (3/3:30p) till Daddy gets home (5:30p) and we eat dinner. So I created this calendar with different things she is to do each day when she wakes up from her nap. All of the planned activities are something that I only have to put out for her in advance and then she can do the activity completely by herself. It is all fun stuff for her, and at the same time will allow me the time I need to get dinner prepared, get Brenna up, etc.
So today's activity was a Scavenger Hunt. I prepared the list ahead of time and got a box. Part of the activity was that she had to decortate the box. Then she had 30 min to find all of the items on the list. I'm pretty proud of this activity (I thought of this one myself...most of the other ideas on my calendar came from a Rainy Day book), because it involves her getting exercise, numbers, counting, matching, as well as the obvious of being observant in nature, and some small reading. I plan to do more with this, maybe with an inside Scavenger Hunt.
