Reading, Writing, and ...

So, we haven't quite got to arithmetic yet. But I just have to take a minute (or a post) and brag on my kid. She's only been in school for a week and some change, but in her "review" worksheets she's been bringing home, she has written the whole alphabet and is reading 3-letter words. She's been attempting this for some time and could write her name, but I had no idea that she could already do the whole alphabet! And no idea that she could spell and read short words - as in the paper she's holding in the above picture. The second day of school or so, she brought home a paper with the whole alphabet written on it. I was super impressed. So the next day at dropoff, I mentioned to her teacher, that I was proud of her for doing so well so soon. And her teacher was almost apologetic..."Yea, it's only the first week, so we just do some reviewing. Things will pick up as we really get into it." :O Review? As in she did this over the Summer session? I had no clue.

Then the next day, she brings home the above worksheet where she had spelled and written out short 3 letter words - 'jet', 'mom', 'pop', 'mop', 'fox', etc... I had wondered if maybe the teacher had just told her what letters to write to spell the word. So in the car on the way home, I kinda quizzed her and asked her if she knew how to spell the words. "Can you spell 'jet'?" "ju J - eh E - tuh T, J-E-T". And I asked her a few more and she got them all right! (at Montessori, they teach letters by the sounds they make)

So, anyway, just wanted to brag! My baby girl is reading and writing! And doing it well! How did she get so big? Just yesterday I was remembering her sleeping in the crib Brenna is sleeping in...and here she is reading and writing words. *sniff sniff*

(here's a couple more 'school pics')

Hard at work...

And two of her friends during Water day over the Summer...
