Brooke got sent home from school a couple of weeks ago for being "sick". Nurse said she had 100.2 fever. :/ Hate getting those calls. So....off I go to pick her up, around 10:30am. No absence for that day b/c she made it till 10:00. We went home and she was complaining of a headache (unfortunately that's not uncommon for her)...but I checked her temp and it was 98.9. It never again showed anything about 99. However, the next day she was unable to go to school b/c technically the day before AT school it was 100.2, so they have that whole 24 hr rule. She was totally fine. She never acted sick, ate everything in the house that day, and was out playing basketball in the front driveway. So she got her first absence for the whole year and she wasn't even really sick. Bummer.
She did, however, get a bloody nose while she was home. Again, not something uncommon for her. However, this one was a BAD one. The worst to date so far for sure. It would. not. stop. It was gushing out...faster than I could change napkins/tissues. I'm not gonna lie - we deal with these all the time - but I was a little freaked out. It was going strong for like 30 minutes! And it was not slowing down.
Finally. Finally!!! After what seemed like forever, after a whole roll of toilet paper, 2 boxes of kleenexes, and a trashcan full of bloody cloths, it slowed. We wouldn't let her get up for a while though, so she spent some time cuddling on the couch with Bailey. Such a good dog...
And then, after the bloody nose, she kept getting the subsequent nosebleeds for several days after. The same one, that just kept breaking back open, probably about 5-6 more times. So aggravating. For her more than anything. And a little unsettling...as she always seems to get bad headaches with them. :(
(and yes, we have talked to the dr about them....still working on a cause and solution)
Meanwhile, the ONE day that she missed the whole year was field trip day. All the 2nd graders (in all of BCS I believe?) got to go to the college and get a lesson in helmet safety. Not that that sounds too exciting, but the kids just love to get out and go and ride the bus and all that jazz. Plus! They all got a brand new bicycle helmet! They handed out 2800 helmets I believe! So, even though Brooke wasn't there to attend, she got to get her helmet after the fact. :)
