Writing

Along with her many other talents...  Brooke is turning into a pretty good writer!  She is part of the UIL Creative Writing Team for her grade and has been staying after school some and participating in extra time with different teachers working with the higher achieving kids and such.  Here's a sample of something she had to write on her own.  And this actually isn't one of her better ones..but she was given the assignment to write about her own character.  Which, is actually pretty hard to do if you think about it!!

Anyway, her (fiction) stories are much better, involving lots of detail, description and even humor!  Most recently one of the other teachers (as in, not HER teacher) that has been working with her group of kids..pulled me aside after school one day to tell me how impressed she is with Brooke's writing.  She said, in fact, that one of her papers she hasn't given back to me because she had to pass it along to a 4th grade teacher because it was that impressive!  She wanted her to see it and think of what she could improve on.  This teacher is used to improving 2nd grade work, not 4th grade.  She also told me she wanted to hang on to the story for a while too if that was ok.  She said she was impressed with her story line, her use of voice, how she made it interesting, etc.  So, of course, now I am super anxious to read what this particular one was about!  But I was so proud at that moment to hear someone (an outside teacher) recognizing Brooke for how good a writer she is becoming!  :)
