The Olympics!!!

I'm not a huge fanatic.  But I do like to keep up a little.  There are certain sports I prefer to watch.  And the Summer Olympics are far more interesting to me than the Winter Olympics.  This year, the girls are old enough to 'get it' and understand what's going on.  They are both involved in swimming, diving, and gymnastics on their own levels, so they thought it was fun to watch a little of it.  (they aren't into watching hours and hours...but a little is ok).

So to kick us off right, I had a little craft for them to do.  We talked about the Olympic rings, the torch, we watched Opening Ceremonies (a little bit of it...the highlights anyway) and we made our own torches!!

Plus, its always fun to get a little (or a lot) messy.  :)  Its a simple enough craft.  I let them paint their rings (I printed out an example of the colors to copy)..we didn't have black, so we used brown instead.  Then we fingerpainted the rest!  Sure...I could've used colored construction paper for ease and less mess....  but...come on!! Where's the fun in THAT?!?!  LOL

Then, we let all our paintings dry.  (outside in 100degrees it only takes about 15 minutes...ha!)  And then I brought them in and let the girls cut their papers into strips (we made yellow, orange, and red...for "fire" colors)...

Then, they arranged their strips (aka - flames) into the empty bottles (aka - torches) with their Olympic labels taped to them... I swear Brooke looks like a floral designer here..  ha!

And....finished products!  They have their own Olympic torches now!!! :)

Then we got to enjoy some Olympics!
