Our newest millionaire!

Brooke.

Brooke, is our newest millionaire!

That's what they call it at her school when a kid reaches a MILLION WORDS read! How awesome is she????!!! Oh. You don't think so? Just average? Well. Let me add. She is the first 1st grader EVER!!!!...in the history of the school (or at least this principal, who's been there forever I think) that has ever gotten a million words. Now. How awesome is she?!?! :)

The day she did it... I took a cell pic of the AR app that showed this monumental day. :)

Then I surprised her with a small cake to celebrate her accomplishment... (and trust me...this was ALLLLL her doing. I never pushed. In fact, I questioned. I thought often times she would never be able to do it. HA! Fooled me!)

And then, this past week, Wednesday, she was recognized on morning announcements for it. Of course I was there, camera in hand! :) I heard later her class was cheering for her. And while she was a tad embarrassed, she did get a sly grin on her face that showed her pride, when her name was read aloud and while the camera was on her. :)

So, along with the recognition (which was a huge deal...the first 1st grader EVER I tell you!), she also received a T-Shirt, a million dollar bill (fake of course) and eraser. She also gets her picture taken (later) and put inside a million dollar bill to be displayed at the school. What's so funny is that the T-shirt is HUGE on her, because they only ever order larger sizes. For the 4th and 5th graders. I think I made it fit ok for the time being. But she was again, quite embarrassed and did not want to wear it all day at school. :P

And yet, even more... after the announcements they had this little celebration wave crowd going for her as she walked back to class. How cool. :)

It goes without saying how proud I am of her. Like I said, this was her doing. No pushing from me at all. She had reached her 100 pts a while back and then noticed she had a certain amt of words which made her want it. And go after it. And she got it. All on her own. I never read any of the books to her. I never made her do it. She was a machine with her reading. Impressive. My little millionaire! :)
