Brooke is back in action at the piano. She played through her entire Christmas book over the break and then some! Now, its time to move on!
Her teacher pulled me aside just before the break to discuss the Spring semester. First off, Brooke is scheduled to take her first Theory test (like a statewide deal) the end of January. She has been taking practice tests here lately and doing well so we assume she'll have no problems with that. Her teacher also recommended that she perform/compete? in her first Solo Festival. Its comparable to UIL Solo and Ensemble contests in school. She sits with a judge, plays 2 memorized pieces and gets...well..judged. She can earn a ribbon or medal or whatever. Her teacher said she doesn't really suggest this for a lot of her first year students, but she thinks Brooke is more than ready b/c she plays so wonderfully. She is already memorizing music on her own and does so with ease! She will definitely also perform/compete in Guild at the end of the year...Solo Festival is just an 'extra' beforehand, taking place in February. So based on her recommendation, we went ahead with the plans and Brooke has already chosen one piece (out of the two) that she will perform. Here she is (after she's memorized it!) perfecting her use of crescendos, pianos, and fortes...(though its hard to tell that aspect via this video) to "Love Somebody". (and she's also singing along too by her own accord!)
