3 years ago, my dear sweet Brenna came barreling into this world. It was a rough pregnancy (they all are for me though). The first 4-6 months of her life were regretfully full of crying, unhappiness, and vomiting (thanks to reflux). And from then on, she has made our lives full of joy and fun and....adventure.
Its hard to believe that Brooke was her age when Brenna was born. That's what I keep remembering today.
Brenna is so hard to describe in just one post. She is so full of life and joy and happiness. I never want real life to 'damage' her spirit. She's fun. She's funny. She makes everyone laugh all the time. She is full of expression. She 'gets' the little jokes and plays them on us. She is so so sooo fun!
She loves to play music. And, by golly...the girl loves to sing. She sings made up songs all the time as well as songs she learns. She participates sooo well in Kindermusik, singing all the songs, doing all the dances, and answering all the questions. All the time. She tells me often that she is ready to go to Kindermusik all by herself now. (please, baby girl? just stay little a little longer?) And I have no doubt that she is totally capable and ready for that step (which will happen in the Fall).
At school, she is thriving! It is soon coming to an end with summer vacation, but in the meantime, she is reading short 3 letter words and her writing is really really improving! Her work from school is impressive. She is able to trace most letters and numbers now and can do several on her own too!
She weighs about 32 lbs. I say, about...because her well check was done with her cast. With cast, she was about 34 lbs, so I'm subtracting 2 lbs for cast (and I think I remember them weighing her when she went in pre-cast).
She loves to eat. She's a little bit picky (soon to come a lot more picky I'm sure...like Brooke), but right now, she sits and finishes her lunch or dinner with however long it takes her. On the rare occasion she is not eating a meal, I have no worries..and realize that she is literally just not hungry. I have faith in her like that b/c she eats so well 98% of the time. Her favorite food is probably macaroni and cheese though. :) Coming in some close seconds would be cheeseburgers, corn dogs, cantaloupe and bananas.
Her favorite color changes - I would have to go with pink. But she likes variety too. :)
She loves Toy Story, Princesses, Mickey Mouse (and crew), Barbies, Polly Pockets, Little Pet Shop, and babies. When I say 'babies'...yes, she likes baby dolls. But she also loves REAL babies. And when I say 'loves', she LOVES them. Candy or baby? She'd pick the baby. She is instantly drawn to any baby in a room and wants to hold, cuddle, hug the baby. She is definitely more into babies than Brooke ever was..and she is very gentle/careful with them, surprisingly.
She has a fascination with bugs. I won't say she loves bugs. She used to be quite scared of them. Then her teacher showed her that flies weren't so bad and got her to hold a dead fly. Ever since, she now is quick to point out any and all bugs/flying insects that catch her eye! Now, her teacher swears she will be an entomologist when she grows up. :P
I think Brenna sometimes gets a bad rap for being crazy or adventurous or whatever. Sure, she's had two broken bones before the age of 3. Along with a split lip and has caused me more gray hair I'm sure than I deserve. But I don't know that I'd describe her as particularly adventurous. She just isn't afraid. And she is very resilient. She has a very high pain threshold (definitely NOT a good thing.) and so things just don't seem to stop her or hold her back. But most of her injuries are just accidents. Not something that she necessarily did that was extra crazy or anything.
She is such a sweet sweet girl. She has such a kind nature about her and is very loving. She offers hugs to anyone who needs or deserves one. She says sweet and nice things to people, completely unprompted. Even at her worst when she wants a toy back...that chances are she gave away to 'share'....she asks nicely for it back and tries to make ammends in advance for wanting it back. Even when she is wronged, she is quick to forgive and move on. She is so genuinely caring and if she sees someone upset, she does any and everything she can to make it better. She'll come up and ask if a hug will make it better.
She loves and admires her sister. She repeats any and everything that Brooke does. Which is not necessarily always a good thing. ;) But its so flattering to Brooke, that's for sure. (this picture below is her Brooke pose :P)
She will talk to strangers, when prompted, but is still a little shy. However, so very different from Brooke in that she will respond or talk to people when they ask her questions. She is also quick to say a 'thank you' or 'bless you' or whatever other polite remark is deemed necessary at the time.
I couldn't imagine our days without our sweet and funny Brenna Ann. She is such a delight to have in our lives and I look so forward to seeing her continue to grow and thrive. Happy Birthday sweet girl! :)
As far as her birthday day went... well, it started off the night before. She got to pick her birthday dinner place. She chose Casa Ole and she wanted them to sing to her (I always ask ;), so they did and they brought out this HUGE bowl of cinnamon ice cream with a cherry on top. She nearly devoured the entire thing alone, only sharing a few bites with her family. :P
Then back to the house and she got to open up her present(s) from Nana. She got the Fisher Price iXL and a few games! She loves it!
The next morning (her actual birthday!), we went and had donuts for breakfast at the donut shop.
First, let me back up a bit and show you this sweet picture I caught of Brooke admiring (?) her little sister on her birthday, before Brenna was awake and before Brooke knew I was watching. Awwww!
On the way to school, she thought it was super cool (and sorta magical) that our CAR even knew it was her birthday!
Then later, I took cookies and juice up to school for a school 'party'.
After coming home, naps, and when Daddy got home, she got to open presents from our family. :) Lots of fun little things - a new baby stroller, a scratch off book from Brooke, a bug locket, a roly poly playground, her very own Ken doll (as in Ken and Barbie), and a new baby (that comes with its own backpack you can use as a carrier). Probably a couple of other things too, but she's hard to shop for, being the second child and all...the one who has all the older child's 'hand me downs'.
Anyway, then off we went to bible study and had a pizza party in honor of her birthday. Complete with a Princess cake and more presents!
I think its safe to say she had a wonderful fun filled couple of days. And her actual birthday party isn't till this weekend!!! :)
PS - Sorry for the delayed post...I had it all written out ready to go but blogger was giving me troubles uploading pics. :/
