Gymnastics Finale

Today was Brooke's last day of gymnastics. We had let her try out some different fun things over the summer and then she got to pick one outside activity to participate in in the Fall/Spring school year, besides school and Kindermusik (since this is her last year of KM, she is finishing that out and graduating!). She chose to do dance. She really has enjoyed gymnastics, though and it was a tough decision. Its hard when everything she has set out to do this summer, she has done with a vengeance - gymnastics (she's really excelled there!), karate (mastered everything there), swimming (completely!), and more. But there are only so many things a 5 year old can keep up with! ;) So, since today was her final day, I decided to bring my camera and take some pictures.

They work on different activities each week. Her strong points are the bars, the rings, and the balance beam. The girl really does have some arm strength! She can hold on longer than most and can perform all the maneuvers well.

Today they happened to be working on the bars. Here she is swinging...
Here she is doing her straddle (? I think that's what they call it?)...and holding on for 17 seconds apparently....
Now, the one thing she is always afraid of - is heights. I think that's why it took her so long to conquer her fear of the diving board. She's ok on a balance beam, though? But every time they ask her to stand on the top bar, she is very leery of it. Even though she can perform all the maneuvers, she still does not like standing atop it. I told her today, this was her last class, and if they asked her to, that she better do it today because it was her last chance. And what do you know...she did it! I was so proud of her. This was the best shot I nabbed of it....
Now, almost always Brenna has to come and sit with me during Brooke's class. Typically this is what she does during the 45 minutes...
We are sad that gymnastics is over when she was doing so well and gaining more confidence in herself. The teachers there are so great with the kids and it is really one on one. She had a lot of fun with it. But I am sure we will come back to it again, next summer if not sooner.

In other news, the girls came home from school the other day with little seed starter kits. I'm not sure how it all fit together, but the same day they apparently had a fireman come and talk to them and someone else brought them these seed kits. Lucky for me, its just in time for me to begin my fall garden (first time for this for me...wish me luck!). So yesterday, we sat down and let the girls plant their seeds. Brooke got some variation of bell peppers and Brenna got green beans.

I'll be sure to keep you updated on how those do! Until next time...
