The saga continues...

The first two days of this swine flu were tolerable. Brenna continued to run a substantial fever. In the 100-103 range. The first day she was pretty unhappy and sick looking and sick feeling you could tell. The second day she had some more playful moments. By the end of the second day though, we began to hear a slight hoarseness in her voice and a cough every so often. Sure enough, when she woke up Sunday morning, she had no voice and wouldn't even open her mouth. Not to talk, not to eat (to speak of), not to hardly even cry. It was a bit eerie to see her with her mouth closed so adamantly for so long. And every once in a while she would let out a muffled cough that you could tell she was trying to keep in (she does NOT want to cough) and then a bursting (silent..cuz she had no voice) screeaming cry for several minutes following. I knew her throat must really be hurting. Poor girl. The breathing got better, in that the sound of the lawnmower was gone, but the throat pain must've been bad. :-(

This was our day yesterday. Poor Brooke has been spending a lot of time playing the Wii. We watch. So far, Brooke is still fine. Kinda wierd, but the verdict so far is that Brooke probably got it from a friend last week, but never developed any symptoms, but then carried it home to Brenna, who by nature has a weaker immune system. Brooke has been exposed over the years to many more things so maybe this didn't hit her hard enough to even notice? I don't know... The doctor said some kids really get hit hard and others you don't even know they have it.

So, she's been pretty bored around here. And frankly I'm pretty bummed we've been having to miss all the fun Halloween/Fall festivities lately. There was a lot to do in town this weekend that we missed out on. Hopefully Brenna will be better at least in time for the real deal ON Halloween, but around here, there might not be much going on? Anyway, here's Brooke getting a 'talking-to'. We've had to explain over and over how for right now, Brenna can get away with things (while she's sick and not feeling good...anything to make her happy right?) and she has learned a new word this weekend - "empathetic". So, today Brenna slept late (as she has been this whole past weekend) till probably 9:30/9:45. She got up and actually tried to talk!!! Of course, she still has no voice, still has a (lower) fever, but at least the mouth is opening again. I try not to be to optimistic, but yet still hopeful. Her breathing has gotten worse today and we are really watching/listening for that today. She sounds real gurgly and wheezy. She did let me look in her mouth today, though. I saw some white patches, but think it was cuz she had just got through drinking some milk. ;P And her throat is red. But she is drinking and eating a little more today than yesterday.

Still lazy and cuddly. Today, while Brooke was at school, she went into Brooke's room and got Mickey and Minnie (two trips) and put them up on the couch. Then she crawled up on the couch with them, in between them, pointed to the TV and said, "MicMe" (her word for Mickey). So, you betcha...she got to watch a full hour of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Sweet girl.
And before her nap today, Brad took a couple videos of her trying to talk... this is so pathetic sounding, but to give you an idea...
