Finally! Finally!!! We have some real Fall weather! As in, temps out of the 80's and 90's! We had a cool front (notice I still didn't say 'cold') come in the end of last week. With it brought a lot more rain. We were sweating it for our garage sale, but turns out the only nice day (non-rainy) of the weekend was Saturday (the day of our garage sale). It was still chilly. Here's Brenna wearing her hat and gloves looking all cute. :-) We did pretty good. We didn't have too many 'big' items. But LOTS of little things. We got rid of a lot, made some extra Christmas spending money, and stored the leftovers till our next garage sale next year.
And I just have to tell this story...to rat on my self as feeling like a bad parent....
Brooke and I went to the grocery store today. She saw some nail polish (cheap) that she desperately wanted when we first walked in. So I made her a deal that if she was good and was a good helper, no whining, etc... we could get it. Everything went well and so I let her put it on the conveyer belt when we got to checkout. As they started scanning my items (one of which being the nail polish), the bagger at the end of the conveyer belt grabbed the cart - that Brooke was of course riding in - and pulled it to her end of the belt to start putting the bags of groceries back in the cart. It was only a couple (MAYBE 3) feet away from me, but Brooke started SCREAMING! I immediately got on to her and told her to stop! She then dwindled to a small cry. I told her that the bagger was just pulling the basket closer to her to put our bags in and again, shushed her. She kept her same cry till we were through checking out and on our way out the door. I explained to her that she should not start screaming like that in a store! On and on...that she was four years old and shouldn't be having fits like a baby does. However, since they already checked me out, the nail polish had been bought. When we got home, I told Daddy what happened and why she would now have to wait to get the nail polish.
As I was putting up groceries, Daddy had a little talk with her about why she started screaming. Later, he told me, she said she was scared that someone was taking her away from Mommy and was screaming like we told her to do if anyone ever tries to take her.
Here's Mommy....shrinking to two feet tall. :( I felt horrible for getting on to her so! How could I not realize how she was legitimately scared that someone jerked the cart (that she was in) away from her Mommy and that her immediate thought was that someone was taking her from me.
So, I talked with her later, told her she could still have the nail polish and that she did do the right thing by screaming...that if she thinks someone is trying to take her she should scream. I had to add a 'but' in there though and further explained, "....but if Mommy or Daddy says its ok and we're still right there, its ok to stop screaming and be ok." Hard concept for a kid to get. But I feel like a horrible mom for getting on to her so... And as Brad said, what if Adam Walsh had only screamed when someone tried to take him from his mom?

I've been there, but Ian was just shy of a year maybe? A jar of spaghetti fell off the belt, they moved the cart to clean it up, so they moved the cart further away and I had to move the other direction to give them enough room, so we were more like 6 feet away. He screamed and started crying... I can't imagine how scared he must have been. What a smart girl though! She remembered what to do!
I would've gotten onto Sierra too without thinking she really thought she was being stolen. You know, I checked groceries in high school and it's extremely common for kids to cry when the baggers pull the cart down like that....you'd think someone would've clued in by now and started teaching baggers to walk the step or two to the cart instead of pulling the poor kids away from mom or dad.
