This time four years ago, I was already at the hospital. It was Easter Sunday, my water broke at 7am and after a long and difficult labor and delivery, Brooke entered the world at 9:28pm.My how our lives have changed since then. We were amazed at this perfect little blessing God had given us. We were the proudest parents (still are!) of our beautiful little Gerber baby. She was the easiest sweetest happiest baby ever. She really never ever cried. Seriously never cried.
She impressed us with her signing and early early talking. We watched as she grew and learned to walk and run and play. Every milestone was huge and we were so proud and in awe.
She started developing her own little personality and was so sweet-spirited. She is so kind by nature, empathetic to others, yet very reserved, observant and shy.
She began to turn from the cutest baby ever to the prettiest little girl around. Her blonde hair was so pretty, her blue eyes so striking, and her smile can light up a room.
Today, she is every sense of the word - girl. She is a true girly girl. She doesn't like bugs or to be dirty. She likes to have her nails painted. She loves wearing dresses, esp if they twirl. Playing dress-up is a sure favorite. The more pink the better. The frillier, the better. Sparkles, glitter, feathers, princesses...it's all what she is about. She likes to play outside and so she can get her hands dirty, digging in the garden, playing in the sandbox, or running and playing with the dogs.
She is reading small books and loves to impress us with 'surprise' words - words that we didn't know she could read. She loves to draw, write words, letters, and color pictures. She likes to hear stories and make up stories. Though she will tell you - "I had a dream last night" - that's key for...here comes a story.
She loves loves loves her baby sister. She is such a little mommy to her. She helps (really!) feed her, get her things, really likes that she can play with her now. She can figure out things to solve a problem with her. For instance, the other day Brenna was trying to pull off all Brooke's records from the shelf. So, Brooke...on her own...decided to go put a few of Brenna's books on that same shelf. Then Brenna pulled off those books...which was ok. Smart cookie!
She is super smart we think. ;) She is counting, adding, subtracting, reading, knows stuff about nature that I didn't even know...the names of certain snakes, spiders, etc. Those museum classes are paying off I guess! She has become more and more independent over the last year and then some (esp with a new baby sister coming along). She gets dressed easily by herself, gets ready for bed by herself, brushes her teeth and flosses (well I might add!), completely gets in the car and buckles herself, and more. She loves to sing and dance, though won't do it for an audience. Only around the house, in the car and around immediate family. She knows the words to hundreds of songs - literally. All her Kindermusik songs, Brenna's Kindermusik songs, random kids' songs, her Sunday School songs, bible songs, Johnny Cash (yes, she's still a fan), anything Mamma Mia and more I'm sure. Her favorite sayings are "Oh brother!"....."Ay-yi-yi"...."I'm not even kidding you!".....and ... "I'm totally serious". She makes us laugh with such funny stuff these days, I just can't remember it all. I can really tell that four is going to be such a fun fun age. While I'm a bit sad that she's getting to be all grown up, it's fun to see what new things she'll do and become.
For her big day? Well, she woke up first and climbed into bed with us. Brad took off today and made her waffles for breakfast with a #4 candle on it. Then off to school for a busy day at school (it was show and tell AND museum day AND her bday). Then at snack time, I brought up some rice krispie treats to share with her friends and they got to sing to her. She got home from school to some really huge balloons and her presents from mom and dad waiting on her. She had already gotten a couple cards in the mail so we let her open all that. Then after her nap, her and I went to get pedicures together. I've been saving a gift certificate since Christmas waiting to take her and thought this is the perfect occassion. She loved every minute of it. She kept looking over at me, giving me this sheepish little grin she does. It was so cute and everyone there thought she was just precious sitting up there with her little tiny feet propped up.
I just really can't believe my sweet little girl is already four. Where does the time go? She has added such joy to our lives, as well as some frustration. The threes were definitely a tough age, as she learned to 'negotiate' and make sense and figure things out. I've heard that the fours are much more fun and nicer. I'm already seeing a fun side of her and it's a great age for her and I to pal around together and have fun talks. As I said, I'm so sad that she is growing up so fast, but at the same time I am so ready to see what the she has in store for the world as she gets older.
Happy Birthday my dear sweet Brooke-a-lina. I love you with all my heart and then some!
