Earlybird presents

My dad came to town today to get some stuff done and while here, he went ahead and let Brooke have her bday present a couple weeks early. A good idea I thought since she'll be bombarded with presents the day of. And so he also went ahead and let Brenna have at hers too (only a month and half early, but who are we kidding? Does she really know?) She was really getting after opening the present now!I love this expression. I see her with a big smile, hands clasped together, saying, "Oh, gee! I've always wanted one of these!"...."See! Isn't it great?!" (by the way, it is a really cool little toy)...And remember me saying she is starting to pull up some now? Well, now she decides to pick the safest spot in the house to pull up on - the fireplace. WITH a fire going in it. Ay-yi-yi!In other family news, you won't see me in any recent pictures, because I now have been diagnosed with Shingles. Yay. (note sarcasm) I finally went to the doctor thinking once again I developed staph infection somehow, but thought it wierd and a little different. Also I was noticing a few tiny blisters in other places besides the main irritated spot. On my eyelid, my nose, the bridge of my nose, in addition to a huge spread on my forehead. I don't know why it didn't click with me...feel kinda dumb now. I thought they were all independent of each other. Maybe a sty on my eye? Maybe a pimple on my nose? Maybe staph on my forehead? But it was a coincidence they were all exclusively on my left side of my face. Why didn't I make the connection?!?! You see, I had shingles before, when I was about 20 yrs old and it stems from the chicken pox virus, which lays dormant in your body after you have chicken pox. Most people never see it again, but some fortunate folks (present blogger included), get it back again in the form of shingles - a painful blistery type rash developing only on one side of the body, usually on the torso but sometimes on the face or arms. Lucky me.

The biggest problem is that it landed in my eye this time and the dr was very concerned and said I should see an eye dr ASAP to make sure it didn't develop behind my eye in the cornea. Oh, gee....great news. They prescribed me an anti-viral med (that was $50!!! yikes!!!) to hopefully prevent any further development and some eye drops. Also, it gets even better, because although shingles is not contagious in its form, a person with shingles can pass it to a person who has not had chicken pox in the form of chicken pox. Or if someone has not had the chicken pox vaccine, they would also be susceptible. Hmmm.....um, can you say Brenna? They give the vaccine at a year old, so she has not had it yet, so she has now been 'exposed' to chicken pox. Oh joy. I really really am praying she doesn't get it.

In the meantime, I'll be seeing my eye dr first thing Monday morning and taking my meds as prescribed, as well as some pain meds 'cause yea...this stuff hurts!
