Well, you can't have lived on this continent and NOT have heard of Hurricane Ike hitting the Texas coast. Most of South Texas was panic striken, except for the 90,000 in Galveston that were under MANDATORY evacuation and still didn't leave. Yea...those people were calm cool and collected the whole time. Crazy. Why are there extremes? You have the people who live inland who have bought up every single water bottle in every single store in the state of Texas, D batteries sold out for miles, gas pumps running out of gas, etc... Then on the other end of the spectrum, you have the people who live on the coast, exactly where the hurricane is going to hit, where the roads and homes are flooded BEFORE it hits...those people wanna 'ride it out'. Those people are staying put. It's amazing to me. Please do offer your prayers for those people living on the coast and in the Houston area. There are homes gone, flooded, and great damage as well as millions of people living without power. I also have several family members down there very near the coast (Freeport and Seabrook) that did evacuate and are safe, but may have lost a lot.
Anyway, I digress. We are some of those inland folks. And we got some wind and rain. Actually, I suppose the hurricane went right thru our area, however we were on the 'good side' and got some 50mph winds maybe and about 4 inches of rain. Nothing more. We were a little cautious and picked up all the small toys out of the yard to protect them and us from the winds. And I imagine around town there are some trees down and maybe a few went without power, but otherwise, all is fine here. Well, except our whole town is out of bread, D batteries, water, and gas. ; ) Here's the best picture of our wind and 'damage'...
So, how did we spend our day? We watched movies, got our our Fall/Halloween decorations and played in the puddles. : )
