Never forget....

I know I will never forget where I was and what I was doing that dreadful day that will forever be marked in our history. I was sitting at my desk at probation when the news started filtering through the office as if it were a bad piece of gossip. The TV got turned on in the break room and we all gathered in between office visits and whatever. Time stood still. At first it seemed like a joke. A random minor thing. Then it got worse and worse. I will never forget the fear that started to impend. We were working in a government building at the time. At the time, after the first tower, after the second tower, the Pentagon, etc... what was next? I had a friend that happened to be off work that day that started calling us... "Why are y'all still there? The courthouse needs to close! Ya'll need to leave! Its not safe." The rest was a blur for the next few days. I think the most awful image is that of people jumping from the buildings. The knowledge that those of the brave flight took power over the terrorists to try to save someone's life. The stories that started coming out. Everyone had one. Everyone. The kids left without parents. Parents not knowing where their children were or if they were safe. The last phone calls people made to their loved ones. The pregnant moms left to give birth days after their husbands were killed and the babies that would never meet their dad. Its awful and tragic and every time I see a picture or hear a clip, it brings back those horrifying days of fear and sorrow. Watching some of the videos and clips today, we've had to take the time to explain what happened to our country 10 years ago to Brooke. Its strange to imagine that she wasn't even alive or a part of this world when this terrible event happened. This will be the history she learns about in school. Lots could be said that's already been said. But I'll just leave you with this short tribute video. Watch it. And remember. And then pray for our military and our country.
