Art Camp

Last year the art teacher and the 1st grade teacher from the girls' school put on their first art camp.  The girls did it and had a blast and learned a lot.  So this year, we were sure to sign up again!  Last week was the first week, where Brenna went in the mornings and Brooke went in the afternoons.  Lucky for Brenna, this week, she gets to go to another round while Brooke is in softball camp.

Last weeks theme for the younger age group was Fairies and Castles, while the older group's theme was Medieval Times (similar but trying to make it 'cool' for the big kids ;) ).  They got to make wands and dragons and castles out of clay, they learned about DaVinci and Michealangelo and more. Of course there was a tie dye day where they got to tie dye a Tshirt.  I just love these teachers and what they do for our kids.  So.  much.  fun.

These pictures downloaded from my FB page where the art teacher had posted them.  Love her for sharing the joy!

100 days!

The 100th day of school has become quite a big deal these days.  I could start with the whole 'when we were kids....' thing, but whatever.  Its a big deal nowadays.

However, only apparently to the little kids.  Once you get in 3rd grade, they do nothing for it.  Go figure.

So for the 100th day of school, Brenna had to make a cape with 100 of something on it.  Since it was getting close to Valentine's Day at the time, we went with a heart theme.  Ha!  Daddy fixed up a piece of felt to work as a cape (he's the seamstress of the family), she chose 100 hearts to glue on.

Also, as a side...sometime that week, I happened to be up at the school helping out in her room when she was one of the Kindergartners chosen to help lead the Pledge of Allegiance.  I snapped this quick pic of the screen as we watched the streaming video.  Though its blurry, if you can tell, she is 2nd from the left holding the flag.  :)

Vocabulary Word Hat Parade

Every year, instead of dressing up for Halloween, the school does the Vocabulary Word Hat Parade.  Each kid draws a word and has to decorate a hat for the parade.  Its no surprise this is not my favorite activity and actually I dread it each year.  This year was no different.  Luckily, Brenna, in Kindergarten, got to pick her word - so we picked an easy one.  Pink!

Brooke, however, landed with "less than".  Ugh!  We ended up doing lots of numbers and '8 is less than 10' kinda scenarios.  But also did some pictures of smaller buildings are less than bigger ones, etc.  We had to talk her into putting UT is less than A&M - she was very concerned about hurting people's feelings.  My sweet thoughtful girl.  :)

The hat parade was a success, despite the...yep.  You guessed it - despite the rain we had that day.

Art Camp

Brooke's art teacher (who is Awesome - with an intentional capital A) and her 1st grade teacher (who we seriously love as an all time favorite teacher so far) put together an art camp this summer.  The girls were soooooo excited to go.  And I was soooo excited that BOTH of them could go.  Since Brenna will be entering Kindergarten next year (sniff..sniff!), they allowed her to come along.  She had a blast! And Brooke always loves art so she of course had fun.  They got to do some really cool stuff and I got to go to the gym alone - haha!

Some of the pictures I took here.  Some are some I "stole" (downloaded) from the art teacher's FaceBook page.  (since I wasn't there, she was great about taking pics so we could see the action!)

Pottery day -

Brenna's "family sculpture"....

Brooke's family art sculpture (that she didn't get time to label)...

They created these blocks with tissue paper and modge podge.  Then attached a clip to hold a picture (or whatever else).  They also painted their pictures of a bunny (for Brooke's head) and a lion (for Brenna's head).  Cute isn't it??!  (and if you can really see, I love how Brenna spelled "lion" - she spelled it liin.  sound it out.  Haha!)...

They made trading cards - these were a couple Brooke made leftover and some Brenna made for the dogs :)

Tye Dye day was a fun fun day.  They each got to do a plain shirt (provided) and then they could bring anything from home they wanted to tye dye.  Brooke chose her Color Run shirt (since all the color came out - boo!) and so I let Brenna take a school shirt that will get handed down to her since its now too small for Brooke.

The last day with these two fabulous teachers!

And see?  Proof of me at the gym while they were camping it up.  :)
