All work and no play...

makes Brandy a very busy mom!

sigh.

It has been sooo crazy around here. Weeks are full of school, piano, Kindermusik, volunteering, editing, errands...and then I still have a house to maintain! Weekends are full of photoshoots, birthday parties, and sometimes a combination of both! Whew!

So, no pictures this time. But I wanted to update a little.

Brooke's report card came home this week. All A's again. But, barely this time! Her math was a 90, even. <.< She has been struggling, not with the concepts or the actual work, but her attention skills are lacking these days and her sloppiness has kicked up a notch. Honestly, I was worried she would even get a B in math this time after seeing some of her papers. But her teacher had assured me that she had a lot of grades to enter that weren't physical papers, but more hands on learning... so I guess so. 'Cause she ended up with all A's again.

Her reading is just REALLY coming along though. She now has like 17 AR points or something? She takes 2 or 3 tests a day on that stuff! And keeps wanting to do more. In fact, the other day at school she got a Happy Visit (which is like an award for something special that is noted on the ribbon) for doubling her AR goal for the six weeks! So I guess that's good. Her biggest problem now is finding stuff to keep reading! Lucky, we have Book Fair next week, huh? :P

I also think Brooke is going to be a good speller. I think spelling is something you either do well or you don't. Brad admits, he's not a good speller. I'm a pretty good speller (for the most part anyway) and hopefully she's inherited that trait. So far, on all her spelling tests she's made at least 100, sometimes a 102 or 104 for the bonus words. Not sure when they are able to start participating in spelling bees? But I think she would be really good at that! She is able to spell way above what they are doing in class and in class they are even doing what I would think are some difficult words for 1st grade.

Her piano skills are out of this world incredible to me. And again, I'm not sure if all the credit goes to her or her teacher and how she teaches. But she is really thriving there. We had a week or two where it was a bit touch and go. Mainly b/c there was a LOT of new material all at once. So she got a little frustrated, a little bogged down. But she pushed through it, made it, and now every week's lesson is easy for her and she's mastering it quickly (whatever the new 'task' is). So that's awesome! So proud of her for that...and maybe a teeny bit jealous she can play so well. :)

She's quite the popular one at school too it seems, telling me of all her boyfriends and cute things they do for her (like getting her extra ketchup at lunch...ahhh, chivalry!). She also seems to have a good base of (girl)friends too. From what she tells me anyway, she seems to be the one that is friends with everyone and blows off the kids that are being mean that day or whatever. She's also a bit of a peacemaker trying to get everyone to be friends. Wow. Not what I would've expected really from Brooke at all - my shy girl. :)

Brenna, meanwhile is doing well too! She is starting to read 4 letter words now, doing blends (like the ST in S-T-O-P) and learning trick words or letters (like TH sound in T-H-E). In fact, the other day I was very much impressed with both the girls when Brooke voluntarily, without any prompting, made Brenna a bunch of letters, cut them out and had her spelling out words with the letters! So cute.

Brenna hasn't done a lot of math yet, but is counting well and all that, so I'm sure she's right on track there. I'm a little bit excited about her upcoming Thanksgiving program at school, where I hear she plays an Indian. Can't wait for that! :)

She is still going to Kindermusik every day, in the 'big kid' class now where she goes alone. She participates well, per her teacher, singing all the songs, doing all the dances, etc. She is even learning via osmosis from Brooke, the notes on the piano! Ha! She can tell you the notes on the Treble Clef anyway.

I love that the girls are getting along much better these days. Maybe being at separate schools has helped? I dunno. But when they get around to playing (and we don't have a lot of time for that...ugh), they have so much fun together nowadays.

Anyway, so...that's enough updates for now I suppose. Lots of stuff going on!
