We went ahead and enrolled the girls in one more swimming session before school started. Its something fun for them to do (they really enjoy it!) and its pretty cheap, especially after you've already done one or more sessions (they knock some off the price for a consecutive session within the same summer).
So for the last two weeks, they've been going every day. Brooke is in Level 3 now, which I think (from what I see) is kinda where they top out at. Its quite funny to me actually to watch her everyday amongst the 10-12 year olds. She is so small compared to the others. In fact, one day, I noticed her sitting on the side while everyone else was in the pool. I thought she got in trouble or something and asked her about it later. Nope. Turns out the teacher was instructing them and wanting them listening and standing still, but Brooke was the only one that couldn't touch (the big kids swim in the deep deep end of the pool) so she had her just sit there while they went through some things. LOL
She's done great. She's increased her confidence. She is swimming across the pool easily now. She has learned breathing and picked that up nicely. (in the video, it may look like the teacher helps her midway, but she is not...she is just there...just in case ;)
Her backstroke looks awesome too! (again the teacher is there just in case...and at the end, she helps straighten her back out. Brooke has a tendency to go a little crooked toward the end. ;)
And each and every day they really work them. Here's a short video of her going through a workout of sorts. The video starts after its already started b/c you couldn't see (from where I was) the beginning. But basically, the teacher had them tread water for 20 seconds (they counted), then swim from that point (not from the side) to the middle of the pool (this is where the video starts), where she was, then dive down and get a ring, come back, hand it to her, then swim to back to the side of the pool.
Each and every day now, she has the swimming across the pool back and forth and back and forth and back and forth. Each time using different strokes or whatever, but it has definitely been a workout for Brooke! Which is great! She comes home tired every day. :)
They have also started to learn diving. And I only wish I had video'd some of the other kids because it shows, in comparison, how great a job Brooke did. You don't get that perspective just watching her. But regardless, here she is. First, they had her sitting to dive, then standing, with one knee down, etc. Again, she did great...and by far was the best out of the group of kids. All the others were doing more of a belly flop...Brooke's head was actually down and into the water! :)
And here's copies of Brooke's underwater pictures they took. (sorry for the quality. Its really hard to get good quality from a scanned in image)
Brenna, meanwhile, has been in Preschool 3 and has just been working on more of where she left off before. She is definitely a swimmer now! I can't believe it. At the ripe old age of 3! She is swimming! I still can't trust her alone or anything and she is only swimming short distances. But definitely swimming...all on her own, no assistance and with her face in! How awesome!
Here's some videos from the past week. Her swimming gets progressively better as you'll see. The first one is from after she goes down the slide, you will notice at the very end, one teacher lets go and she swims completely on her own to the ladder (where the other teacher is located).
And here's another from a separate night of her swimming a little further....to the ladder. (I tried to get a bit of her commentary at the end, but she was more concerned with whether or not she could go down the slide again ;P) Go Brenna! :)
And finally, the last video from her last night! She's really swimming! :)
So proud of her! She is still sooo little! She is only 3 after all. ;) But bottom line, I am so glad that both of my kids are turning into such great little swimmers and that they love the water! So exciting!
