First busted lip

Here's a 'before' picture...... And an after.....


Today at school, just before lunch, they came to get me because Brooke "had fallen and cut her lip and wouldn't calm down.....could I come see if I could get her calmed down?" So, I'm figuring she had fallen and had a small cut on her lip from her teeth maybe and was just freaking out a bit as she sometimes does. After all she had just had a breakdown earlier that morning going into staff childcare. Well, my reaction when I went in and saw her was probably not the best. There was blood all over her shirt, blood all in her mouth and on her hands, her lip was bleeding profusely and she was not in any mood to calm down. Not to be too graphic or gross but there was quite a gash with skin that was detached. Again, my reaction to her was probably not the best for her spirits, but I was totally not expecting it. Anyway, once I got there, she allowed me to take her to the bathroom to clean her lip off and her hands, shirt and the rest of her. But she also got a view of herself in the mirror and was just as horrified as I was at first. I was worried at first that she might need a stitch? After all, Brooke is not a kid who gets injured a lot so I am not used to this. But the bleeding finally subsided as did her crying. But the best medicine came when the director found a popsicle. :) That, of course, helped to numb her lip and make it feel better as well as take her mind off of it. After a bit she was finally calm enough to go back to her class and finish out the day. She asked for me a couple times and when I went to check on her later (to find out she was doing ok), she was sad to see me go, whereas normally she wouldn't care. But she finished out her school day and now has a battle scar to show her Daddy when he gets home from work. She keeps calling herself "very brave" and thinks it was extra special that she and only she got a popsicle.

The pictures do not do her lip justice. It is really pretty fat and swollen and as red as her shirt. The inside of her mouth is pretty torn up as well and still bothers her some when eating, trying to drink, etc. I know she'll be fine, but I just had to post a picture and the story of her first minor mishap.
